And what an incredible day it was. The BRIDGE IX, by invitation only, surpassed all expectations, with over 500 guests and 300 vehicles showcased on the pristine golf course with clear blue skies on September 13th. Mercedes-Maybach came in as a partner and showcased the SL, the brand’s first open-top roadster, flanked by the GLS 600 SUV and the sophisticated S 680 Sedan. A selection of classic Maybach vehicles delivered continued sophistication to the vibrant and highly affluent crowd, with an eye-catching lineup of rare automobiles stretching as far as the eye could see. The immaculate fairways of the Bridge created a perfect blend of stunning and unbelievable scenery.
Volvo celebrated its 70th anniversary in the US with a specially curated exhibit, featuring beloved classics like the Volvo P1900 Convertible and Amazon, alongside the sleek all-electric EX90. Other partners included: Luminari Motors, Merrill, Barton & Gray, Gunther Werks, FariCars, Expedition Motor Company, Topping Rose House, Pivotal, Arcade Cars, Morgan Motor Company, Roche Bobois, and more. Showcased were a wide spectrum of automotive history, from sculptural icons like the Ferrari 275 GTB and Mercedes-Benz 300 SL to modern masterpieces from McLaren, Koenigsegg, and legendary American muscle cars, some of which once raced on this very terrain.
The Bridge was created in 2016 by Bob Rubin- an avid vintage racer, art and architecture enthusiast and owner of the Bridge Golf Course, famed marketing and global business developer- Shamin Abas and lawyer, born automotive curator Jeffrey Einhorn. The trio celebrated their ninth year.
We must not forget that the Bridge resides on the former historic Bridgehampton Race Circuit designed by Grumman in 1957 and utilized until 1970. Rubin purchased the racetrack in 1981 and operated it until 1998 as a private club, then started construction on the golf course. So the property, creators, and participants all adhere to history, heritage, design, innovation, automotive excellence and enduring legacy.
The event honored Bridgehampton’s racing heritage and the highlight was a panel discussion exploring the intersection of motorsports, contemporary art, and female leadership, featuring notable figures such as Julie Mehretu, Mickalene Thomas, Zoë Barry, and Thomas Girst. The East Coast debut of BMW Art Car No. 20, created by Mehretu, was especially moving for attendees.
There was design, engineering, and storytelling without competition or awards, a unique cultural celebration in the heart of the Hamptons. With a stunning panorama of engineering mastery, artistry, and history, Mercedes-Maybach captivated attendees with a curated showcase that seamlessly blended innovation and timeless craftsmanship. It was simply the best.
