SUMMARY:The Clamshell Foundation Fireworks
DESCRIPTION:  \nWHEN: Saturday\, July 15 \n*RAIN DATE: Sunday\, July 16 \nThe Fireworks Show is a three-decade long tradition  staged over Three Mile Harbor in East Hampton.  The fireworks almost faded into history\, but in 2009\, The Clamshell Foundation revived the popular event and has taken it over every year since. The fireworks is an important tradition in East Hampton and was one of our founders\, Rossetti Perchick\, favorite nights of the year.\nListen to the fireworks music simulcast on WLIW-FM with host Brian Cosgrove!\n  \nFIREWORKS PARTIES/ VIEWING LOCATIONS:\nGreat viewing locations include Maidstone Park\, Sammy’s Beach\, Gann Road\, or any of the beaches off of Hands Creek Road and Springy Banks Road\, as well as the head of 3 Mile Harbor. Watch via boat and anchor in 3 Mile Harbor. No matter where you view them\, please remember to stay safe and clean up afterwards. \n  \nThe Clamshell Foundation was founded in 1992 by the late Rossetti Perchik. Rossetti’s love for the East Hampton community and local waters inspired him to create events that everyone could enjoy. We are working to continue Rossetti’s mission by ensuring The Clamshell Foundation supports the people\, programs\, and projects of the East End.\nWe partner and provide funds to local groups including the Retreat\, Montauk\, East Hampton\, Amagansett\, Springs & Sag Harbor Food Pantries\, East End Cares\, OLA of Eastern Long Island\, Soul Grow and Olman Sanabria\, among others.

SUMMARY:Fifty Isn't The End- Rufus Wainwright & Friends 50th Birthday Celebration
DESCRIPTION:RUFUS WAINWRIGHT:\nRufus has a lifelong connection to the Hamptons. The Wainwrights are social fixture in East Hampton. Rufus would spend his childhood summers on Shelter Island where his dad now has a home and take the bike each day to East Hampton to be part of the posher side of the Hamptons. \nHe met his husband Jorn Weisbrodt in Berlin in the spring of 2005 and in the summer of the same year they solidified their relationship in the guesthouse on the old Andy Warhol Estate in Montauk that Rufus rented from Paul Morrissey. Since then\, Montauk has been their happy place. \nThey bought their house in Hither Hills in 2008. It was built in the late 50s by Irving Berlin’s musical secretary Helmut Kresa and allegedly he notated “White Christmas” at the house. They got married in their garden in 2012 with about 300 friends attending including Yoko Ono\, Marina Abramovic\, the late Lou Reed\, Ingrid Sischy and Carrie Fisher\, Julianne Moore\, and Mark Ronson among others. The afternoon ceremony was followed by a swim at their beloved Hither Hills Beach and dinner at the Clam Bar on Montauk Highway followed by an afterparty at Montauk’s Shagwong. \nOn his 2012 released Mark Ronson produced 7th studio album “Out of the Game” Rufus sings an ode to his beloved Montauk. \nBoth Jorn and Rufus turn 50 in 2023. Rufus prefers working on his birthday\, which is actually the 22nd of July but since his daughter Viva would not be able to attend as she will be in her summer camp\, they decided to move the celebration slightly earlier. \nRufus’ dream had always been to do a concert on the lawn at the iconic Lighthouse in Montauk\, and when they met the director of the Montauk Historical Society Mia Certic\, she enthusiastically embraced the idea. The concert will be a benefit for the Montauk Historical Society to support the operations of this beloved New York Landmark. All performers are donating their services. \nMONTAUK HISTORIAL SOCIETY:\nThe Montauk Historical Society is the nonprofit organization that owns the Montauk Point Lighthouse. It costs over $1.5 million a year to run the lighthouse and museum. Special events\, like its annual benefit concert\, are an essential way to fund programming and maintenance. An extensive restoration of the tower and the exterior of the museum will be completed this summer after over five years of work and planning\, and at a cost of $1.8 million. It was funded by grants\, generous donations\, and admission fees. https://montaukhistoricalsociety.org/restoration-first-phase/. A $38 million revetment led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and New York State’s Department of Environmental Control\, finished earlier this year\, will safeguard the lighthouse for future generations. The mission of the Montauk Historical Society is to collect\, restore\, preserve\, and display historically significant buildings\, objects\, and writings\, and to preserve the history and cultures of Montauk and the East End for this and future generations.

SUMMARY:SUMMER MUSIC SCHOOL WORKS IN PROGRESS CONCERT
DESCRIPTION:The Works in Progress student concert series begins on Saturday\, July 1 in the PMP Performance Tent. Students will present and refine their repertoire on Friday and Saturday evenings through August (a full calendar is below). Works in Progress concerts are free and open to the public.\n  \n\n\n\n\n\nAs a young violin student at Juilliard\, Toby Perlman imagined an antidote to the competitive and isolating environment that exceptional young artists often grapple with in the pursuit of their craft. \nIn the summer of 1994\, along with her husband Itzhak\, Toby established The Perlman Music Program for aspiring young violinists\, violists\, cellists\, bassists\, and pianists. In 2000\, a visionary group of supporters secured the program’s 28-acre home on Shelter Island overlooking Crescent Beach. This peaceful\, secluded campus is the perfect setting for students to escape the demands of their complicated lives and come together to form a lasting community. \nToby’s dream is based on a deceptively simple idea: meet the needs of each child\, respect and trust students\, and immerse them in a nurturing environment that emphasizes connection over competition. At PMP\, our young musicians learn how to be in the world. They collaborate\, support each other\, and contribute to camp life. Our faculty look beyond the surface of technical proficiency and focus on their students’ potential to be interesting artists. We safeguard talent and individuality\, and encourage kids to explore\, take risks\, and develop at their own pace. \nToday\, PMP provides a vibrant curriculum of programs\, residencies\, concerts\, mentorship\, and educational engagement\, filling more than 300 days of the year. The most promising young musicians from across the world have a platform to thrive\, make music together\, challenge each other\, form life-long bonds\, and transform their potential into a life-changing reality.

SUMMARY:Sag Harbor Historical "Keeping History Alive" Gala
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, July 1\, 2023 | 5:00-7:00 p.m.\n“Keeping History Alive” is the theme for the Museum’s 2023 fundraising event. \nOne might say that the Museum’s mission is “Keeping History Alive”\, if it were to be articulated in only three words; but\, the Museum is not the only one contributing to this endeavor. This year the Sag Harbor Historical Museum is proud to be honoring three Main Street business icons and the visionaries who created them. These individuals and families have not only protected Sag Harbor’s history but they each have contributed to the village’s history over the last 50 years. \nTed Conklin of The American Hotel \nNada Barry & Gwen Waddington of the Wharf Shop \nRoseann Bucking & Lisa Field of the Sag Harbor Variety Store \nThese individuals have steadfastly operated with a passionate commitment to the Sag Harbor community\, to the families and friends that comprise or visit it\, and to the vision they each had for the business and how it would fit into our community. Over the 50 years they have operated\, they have weathered all of the economic ups and downs and come out the other side unchanged\, and even more committed to their vision and uncompromising in their values. As many lament the “passing of the old fashioned Main Street”\, Sag Harbor and these businesses have remained committed to it and have fiercely protected it. Sag Harbor’s  Main Street is not a cookie cutter of so many these days\, having only specialty stores and designer boutiques. We have these three unique\, family-owned Main Street businesses\, the likes of which cannot be found any where else. We praise them for their contribution to keeping Sag Harbor’s alive for the past 50 years. \nPlease join us in celebrating these three history-making business establishments and their founders\, and help us in our continuing efforts “Keeping History Alive”.

SUMMARY:SUMMER MUSIC SCHOOL FACULTY CONCERT
DESCRIPTION:Summer Music School Faculty present their annual opening concert in the Performance Tent. PMP’s renowned teaching artists share a warm welcome to the Summer Music School with students and local classical music lovers alike at the annual Faculty Concert on Friday\, June 30. This spirited tradition will feature a selection of solo and chamber music favorites under the PMP Performance Tent – with a few surprises sure to be in store. This popular annual concert is free to the public\, and is expected to fill up quickly: audience members are encouraged to arrive 30-45 minutes early and may bring lawn chairs for outside overflow seating (concert seating is provided inside the open-air performance tent). \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nAs a young violin student at Juilliard\, Toby Perlman imagined an antidote to the competitive and isolating environment that exceptional young artists often grapple with in the pursuit of their craft.

SUMMARY:15th Annual Get Wild! Benefit Gala
DESCRIPTION:In 1991\, Virginia Frati was on her way home from her job as a secretary with the Dept. of Public Works in Yaphank when she saw a woodchuck hit by a car in front of her. The animal was not killed and was writhing in pain by the side of the road. She pulled over and approached the injured animal. It did not appear to be mortally wounded and she thought it could be helped. \nGinnie called a local veterinarian and was told she should contact a wildlife rehabilitator. With a hopeful heart she dialed the number she was given. An answering machine informed her of the numbers of other rehabilitators in the area. After leaving a frantic call for help\, Virginia dialed each number\, only to receive a similar message. She left a detailed call for help on each tape. After ten dollars of quarters were expended\, she realized that no help for the woodchuck was coming. She sat next to the suffering animal until it finally died. \nSuddenly Virginia could clearly see the hardships animals endure in the wild. That’s when she vowed to do something to alleviate the suffering of nature’s wild creatures. \n  \nVirgina was inspired to start her own rescue after realizing how little resources were available for struggling animals facing hardships. \n

SUMMARY:CHAMBER MUSIC WORKSHOP: CELEBRATION CONCERT IV
DESCRIPTION:Young artists of the Chamber Music Workshop cap off the Workshop’s 20th season. Programming to be announced. \n\n\n\n\n\nAs a young violin student at Juilliard\, Toby Perlman imagined an antidote to the competitive and isolating environment that exceptional young artists often grapple with in the pursuit of their craft.
