SUMMARY:Heart of The Hamptons Moonlit Plunge
DESCRIPTION:  \nMore than 42 years ago\, members of the Southampton\, NY community came together and founded an organization to help those in need. A small Food Pantry and an emergency Assistance Outreach were launched. The organization continued to grow\, and in 2003\, Heart of the Hamptons officially became a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Over the years\, HOH has developed a network of programs and established community partnerships to strengthen outreach and effectiveness. The headquarters at 168 Hill Street in Southampton Village is generously provided by the Basilica Parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. \nToday\, Heart of the Hamptons offers a Food Pantry and Assistance Program to more than 2\,100 households each year with the help of more than 200 dedicated volunteers\, and an active Board of Directors. The Assistance Program services include a multi-faceted approach to crisis intervention\, medical assistance funding\, aid for seniors\, school supplies\, and summer lunches for school children. Heart of the Hamptons also connects people in need with other resources available in our local community. \nAll our services are offered with respect for clients’ privacy and dignity. Heart of the Hamptons works hand-in-hand with the local schools\, government and civic organizations\, churches\, and other food pantries to make sure the need is addressed wherever it arises. \nOur main annual fundraiser\, the Polar Bear Plunge\, held every second Saturday in December at Cooper’s Beach in Southampton Village\, is a much-anticipated event that attracts hundreds of people who raise funds to support their community. We welcome all volunteers and donations.

SUMMARY:Hope on The Harbor- No Dog Left Behind
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe East Asian dog trafficking crisis has been going on for hundreds of years\, if not more. Our mission is to work with governments in East Asia\, and we believe that China will lead the way to change in adopting animal welfare laws. This goal can only be reached by having the support and compassion of supporters just like yourself. It takes an army to create a movement that will eventually change a nation. We fight this war on all fronts – education\, politically\, financially\, and culturally. Our entire organization operates on the Five Pillars of Rescue. Through this strategy\, we will change the world. Our voices will get louder and louder for the voiceless.

Each year GYF programs serve hundreds of young people\, seniors\, families\, and communities with transformative outreach initiatives supporting health and education\, sports and arts\, community-building and fundamental social services. Don’t be surprised to hear the King of Reggae’s son referencing Harlem’s master of the jazz orchestra. Never one to limit his musical horizons\, Stephen has always listened without prejudice\, letting his inspiration set him free as a singer\, songwriter\, musician\, and producer—whether collaborating with his illustrious musical family\, or with Lauryn Hill\, Nas\, or Erykah Badu. \nBeginning his lifelong musical journey at the age of six\, Stephen shared historic stages with his legendary father and toured the world with his brother Ziggy and sisters Cedella and Sharon\, The Melody Makers. The Tuff Gong instilled in all of his children a strict work ethic and an awareness that “music is way more than just music.” \nOver the past 45 years\, Stephen has won no fewer than eight Grammy Awards—three with The Melody Makers\, twice as a producer of his younger brother Damian Marley\, and three times as a solo artist. Every one of his solo projects to date has topped the Billboard Reggae charts. Stephen Marley’s place in music history is already secure. He does not really need to push the envelope\, to defy expectations\, to let the whole world into his world. And yet that is just what he’s decided to do. \nStephen Marley’s highly anticipated new single Old Soul just dropped on his birthday April 20\, 2023; the first work off his new studio project in 5 years which is set to release later this year –and comes as a complete revelation and many new surprises. \nStephen is excited to bring another ‘Babylon By Bus’ Summer Tour on the road this summer!! \nStay tuned for more updates and music coming soon\, visit stephenmarleymusic.com for more information.

SUMMARY:The Perlman Music Group Annual Summer Gala
DESCRIPTION:FRIDAY\, JULY 28\n6pm Cocktails & Reception \n7pm Chorus and Orchestra Concert \n8pm Seated Dinner \nOur gala is the heartbeat of our summer fundraising and sustains our operations and programming all year long. Your support gives our students a place to be kids in a safe\, nurturing community and sets them up for a future complete with life-long mentorship\, musicianship\, and friendship. \n  \nAs a young violin student at Juilliard\, Toby Perlman imagined an antidote to the competitive and isolating environment that exceptional young artists often grapple with in the pursuit of their craft. \nIn the summer of 1994\, along with her husband Itzhak\, Toby established The Perlman Music Program for aspiring young violinists\, violists\, cellists\, bassists\, and pianists. In 2000\, a visionary group of supporters secured the program’s 28-acre home on Shelter Island overlooking Crescent Beach. This peaceful\, secluded campus is the perfect setting for students to escape the demands of their complicated lives and come together to form a lasting community. \nToby’s dream is based on a deceptively simple idea: meet the needs of each child\, respect and trust students\, and immerse them in a nurturing environment that emphasizes connection over competition. At PMP\, our young musicians learn how to be in the world. They collaborate\, support each other\, and contribute to camp life. Our faculty look beyond the surface of technical proficiency and focus on their students’ potential to be interesting artists. We safeguard talent and individuality\, and encourage kids to explore\, take risks\, and develop at their own pace. \nToday\, PMP provides a vibrant curriculum of programs\, residencies\, concerts\, mentorship\, and educational engagement\, filling more than 300 days of the year. The most promising young musicians from across the world have a platform to thrive\, make music together\, challenge each other\, form life-long bonds\, and transform their potential into a life-changing reality.

SUMMARY:Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation Unconditional Love Gala
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) is a 501(c)3 non-profit\, open admission\, no kill shelter that relies on the generosity of our donors and volunteers to care for the homeless animals in our community\, and place them in loving “forever homes.” The shelter provides a stepping stone for these animals – offering them housing\, food\, medical treatment\, training\, and rehabilitation when necessary.  For 13 years since the town eliminated the shelter and SASF was formed\, we  have been dedicated to caring for homeless animals in our community of 25 hamlets and villages-but… we don’t stop there. We rescue dogs from “kill shelters” and dire situations from across the country from New York City to Georgia to Puerto Rico and even Mexico.  We have proven ourselves to be a leading shelter. We pride ourselves on finding excellent homes for large numbers of animals. Since 2010\, the shelter’s adoption rate has increased significantly due to the many new services we provide\,  such as a veterinary clinic that handles all incoming medical evaluations and care\, public spay and neuter services\, micro-chipping\, and inoculations. We have one of the best training and behavior departments in the country. Our program socializes\, integrates\, and enriches the lives of shelter dogs and it has proven to increase the rate of adoptability of these dogs.

SUMMARY:Quogue Wildlife Refuge Wild Night for Wildlife Summer Gala
DESCRIPTION:15th Annual Wild Night for Wildlife Summer Gala\n  \nThe Quogue Wildlife Refuge is a 305 acre non-profit nature preserve that was founded in 1934 and is home to diverse wildlife. Open 365 days a year from sunrise to sunset\, visitors can enjoy walking seven miles of trails to explore diverse habitats including forests and ponds\, as well as the ecologically rare Dwarf Pines in the Pine Barrens. Admission is free. \nThe Outdoor Wildlife Complex houses permanently injured wildlife that require human care to survive including owls\, falcons\, opossum\, and other native New York animals. Educational programs are offered throughout the year for all ages\, and our Summer Camp is in its 53rd year! \nThe Charles Banks Belt Nature Center offers spectacular views of Old Ice Pond as well as a variety of wildlife exhibits\, live animals\, a nature library\, and gift shop. Come by and visit! \nA bit of history:\nThe Quogue Wildlife Refuge is celebrating its 88th year of existence\, and has a fascinating history that started in 1934. The black duck population declined sharply in the early 1930s due to several exceptionally cold winters which  alarmed many local duck hunters. During a meeting at the Hampton Bays Firehouse\, Charlie Belt explained the severity of the waterfowl plight\, and suggested they establish a waterfowl refuge\, a place where they could propagate and rear waterfowl “…to put two ducks in the air for every one we take.” From this meeting\, the Southampton Township Wildfowl Association (STWA) was formed with 45 charter members; all were duck hunters and pioneer conservationists from the town of Southampton. Their signatures are on the charter which hangs over the fireplace in the Charles Banks Belt Nature Center at the Refuge.

Rufus would spend his childhood summers on Shelter Island where his dad now has a home and take the bike each day to East Hampton to be part of the posher side of the Hamptons. \nHe met his husband Jorn Weisbrodt in Berlin in the spring of 2005 and in the summer of the same year they solidified their relationship in the guesthouse on the old Andy Warhol Estate in Montauk that Rufus rented from Paul Morrissey. Since then\, Montauk has been their happy place. \nThey bought their house in Hither Hills in 2008. It was built in the late 50s by Irving Berlin’s musical secretary Helmut Kresa and allegedly he notated “White Christmas” at the house. They got married in their garden in 2012 with about 300 friends attending including Yoko Ono\, Marina Abramovic\, the late Lou Reed\, Ingrid Sischy and Carrie Fisher\, Julianne Moore\, and Mark Ronson among others. The afternoon ceremony was followed by a swim at their beloved Hither Hills Beach and dinner at the Clam Bar on Montauk Highway followed by an afterparty at Montauk’s Shagwong. \nOn his 2012 released Mark Ronson produced 7th studio album “Out of the Game” Rufus sings an ode to his beloved Montauk. \nBoth Jorn and Rufus turn 50 in 2023. Rufus prefers working on his birthday\, which is actually the 22nd of July but since his daughter Viva would not be able to attend as she will be in her summer camp\, they decided to move the celebration slightly earlier. \nRufus’ dream had always been to do a concert on the lawn at the iconic Lighthouse in Montauk\, and when they met the director of the Montauk Historical Society Mia Certic\, she enthusiastically embraced the idea. The concert will be a benefit for the Montauk Historical Society to support the operations of this beloved New York Landmark. All performers are donating their services. \nMONTAUK HISTORIAL SOCIETY:\nThe Montauk Historical Society is the nonprofit organization that owns the Montauk Point Lighthouse. It costs over $1.5 million a year to run the lighthouse and museum. Special events\, like its annual benefit concert\, are an essential way to fund programming and maintenance. An extensive restoration of the tower and the exterior of the museum will be completed this summer after over five years of work and planning\, and at a cost of $1.8 million. It was funded by grants\, generous donations\, and admission fees. https://montaukhistoricalsociety.org/restoration-first-phase/. A $38 million revetment led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and New York State’s Department of Environmental Control\, finished earlier this year\, will safeguard the lighthouse for future generations. The mission of the Montauk Historical Society is to collect\, restore\, preserve\, and display historically significant buildings\, objects\, and writings\, and to preserve the history and cultures of Montauk and the East End for this and future generations.
