SUMMARY:WATER MILL MUSEUM-ICE CREAM SOCIAL
DESCRIPTION:WATER MILL MUSEUM\nICE CREAM SOCIAL\nJULY 21\,  7:00pm\nKids from 3 to 93\, come gather with your friends\, neighbors and of course\, your grandchildren\, for an old-fashioned ICE CREAM SOCIAL. Please bring your muscles to help to churn an old-fashioned\, wooden ice cream maker to make the best ice cream you have ever tasted. \nAnd why are we offering ice cream in a water mill\, you ask? By the early 1900s\, all milling stopped\, and the Benedict family used the building to store ice that they harvested from the Mill Pond. They then made ice cream in the basement from the abundant cream from local dairies. \nPlease call to reserve your spot by calling +1-631-726-4625.

Chaired by Jean Shafiroff\, the event will honor Mr. William Bratton\, former New York City Police Commissioner and Mr. Jonathan McCann\, founding President of SASF. \n  \nThe annual event has been the most important fundraiser for the shelter for over a decade. The honorees for 13th Annual Unconditional Love Gala are philanthropists and animal advocates\,  \n  \nThe fun-filled gala will feature cocktails and a delicious\, seated dinner\, as well as dancing. In addition\, a live and silent auction will help raise much-needed funds for the animals.  \nProceeds from this event directly support the more than 5\,000 animals who enter our doors each year. The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation\, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization\, is supported exclusively by donations and grants from the community. From caring and finding homes for stray and abandoned animals to providing low-cost veterinary care and dog training so that animals can remain in their homes\, the shelter has become a vital resource in our community.  \n  \nHost committee Rocco DiSpirito\, Elena Gibbs\, Rolise Rachel\, Asia Lee\, Antonella Bertello\, Dawn Strain\, John Crawford\, and Missy Hargraves along with the foundation are organizing the event. Tickets and tables are available now at www.sasf.org/gala \n  \nFor more information\, please visit www.sasf.org. \n For hi-res images from previous year’s events\, visit: https://bit.ly/3qlOTDs \n  \nAbout SASF:   \nThe Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) is a no kill\, open admission shelter and 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that relies on the generosity of their donors and volunteers to care to for the homeless animals in its community\, and to place them in loving “forever homes.” The number of animals in need of help is growing every day. The overpopulation of pets on Long Island is a major issue. Whether caring for strays found wandering the streets\, rescuing neglected and abandoned animals\, or saving dogs from the horrors of the puppy mill industry\, the shelter is a safe haven for all animals and for some\, a last resort. Without SASF\, these animals would not be able to survive. The shelter provides a steppingstone for animals to find a loving home. It offers them housing\, food\, medical treatment\, training\, and rehabilitation when necessary.  They not only take in community pets but also partner with other rescues and shelters\, located on Long Island\, New York and areas in the South including Puerto Rico\, to save animals that are in dire situations.   \n  \nFor more information\, please visit www.sasf.org. \n

SUMMARY:Adopt A Family
DESCRIPTION:In 1983\, Palm Beach County residents Lucy Runyon\, Jayne Ellison\, and Kay Mansolill heard a gut-wrenching story on a local radio station: A family of four was moving from Texas to Florida\, but during their journey\, one of the children fell terribly ill. The child required hospitalization and the family’s savings were quickly drained as the parents\, desperate to care for their child\, received medical bill after medical bill.  \n \nThey arrived in West Palm Beach destitute\, and\, unable to afford a home or hotel\, were forced to take shelter under The Royal Palm bridge.   \nRunyon\, Ellison\, and Mansolill knew something had to be done to protect this family. The three women quickly assisted the family\, finding them an affordable home\, helping secure employment\, and ultimately\, helped them reclaim their dignity.  \nThe Adopt-A-Family dream was born. The women continued to assist “new\, ‘families in need\,’ who were temporarily down on their luck and too modest to ask for help\,” according to Runyon\, who quickly presented this mission to the Board of Directors at First National Bank in Palm Beach\, where she worked.  \n \nPlans for the Family Resource Center\, now our headquarters\, circa 2001. \n\nTwelve hours later\, the first Board of Directors for Adopt-A-Family of the Palm Beaches was born. One year later\, Adopt-A-Family incorporated as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable organization. The founding women developed a list of local families in need and rallied local businesses and institutions to support Adopt-A-Family’s growing work. Some of the companies that assisted in 1983 continue to support AAF’s efforts today.  \nMore than 38 years later\, Adopt-A-Family has assisted more than 54\,500 families. Our work continues to echo the ethos of Runyon\, Ellison\, and Mansolill’s early efforts. Families are not only offered shelter\, but taught financial literacy\, provided with mental health therapy\, connected to employment and educational opportunities\, and given a safe\, dignifying environment to regain stability and self-sufficiency.  \n
