SUMMARY:Sag Harbor Historical "Keeping History Alive" Gala
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, July 1\, 2023 | 5:00-7:00 p.m.\n“Keeping History Alive” is the theme for the Museum’s 2023 fundraising event. \nOne might say that the Museum’s mission is “Keeping History Alive”\, if it were to be articulated in only three words; but\, the Museum is not the only one contributing to this endeavor. This year the Sag Harbor Historical Museum is proud to be honoring three Main Street business icons and the visionaries who created them. These individuals and families have not only protected Sag Harbor’s history but they each have contributed to the village’s history over the last 50 years. \nTed Conklin of The American Hotel \nNada Barry & Gwen Waddington of the Wharf Shop \nRoseann Bucking & Lisa Field of the Sag Harbor Variety Store \nThese individuals have steadfastly operated with a passionate commitment to the Sag Harbor community\, to the families and friends that comprise or visit it\, and to the vision they each had for the business and how it would fit into our community. Over the 50 years they have operated\, they have weathered all of the economic ups and downs and come out the other side unchanged\, and even more committed to their vision and uncompromising in their values. As many lament the “passing of the old fashioned Main Street”\, Sag Harbor and these businesses have remained committed to it and have fiercely protected it. Sag Harbor’s  Main Street is not a cookie cutter of so many these days\, having only specialty stores and designer boutiques. We have these three unique\, family-owned Main Street businesses\, the likes of which cannot be found any where else. We praise them for their contribution to keeping Sag Harbor’s alive for the past 50 years. \nPlease join us in celebrating these three history-making business establishments and their founders\, and help us in our continuing efforts “Keeping History Alive”.

SUMMARY:SUMMER MUSIC SCHOOL FACULTY CONCERT
DESCRIPTION:Summer Music School Faculty present their annual opening concert in the Performance Tent. PMP’s renowned teaching artists share a warm welcome to the Summer Music School with students and local classical music lovers alike at the annual Faculty Concert on Friday\, June 30. This spirited tradition will feature a selection of solo and chamber music favorites under the PMP Performance Tent – with a few surprises sure to be in store. This popular annual concert is free to the public\, and is expected to fill up quickly: audience members are encouraged to arrive 30-45 minutes early and may bring lawn chairs for outside overflow seating (concert seating is provided inside the open-air performance tent). \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nAs a young violin student at Juilliard\, Toby Perlman imagined an antidote to the competitive and isolating environment that exceptional young artists often grapple with in the pursuit of their craft. \nIn the summer of 1994\, along with her husband Itzhak\, Toby established The Perlman Music Program for aspiring young violinists\, violists\, cellists\, bassists\, and pianists. In 2000\, a visionary group of supporters secured the program’s 28-acre home on Shelter Island overlooking Crescent Beach. This peaceful\, secluded campus is the perfect setting for students to escape the demands of their complicated lives and come together to form a lasting community. \nToby’s dream is based on a deceptively simple idea: meet the needs of each child\, respect and trust students\, and immerse them in a nurturing environment that emphasizes connection over competition. At PMP\, our young musicians learn how to be in the world. They collaborate\, support each other\, and contribute to camp life. Our faculty look beyond the surface of technical proficiency and focus on their students’ potential to be interesting artists. We safeguard talent and individuality\, and encourage kids to explore\, take risks\, and develop at their own pace. \nToday\, PMP provides a vibrant curriculum of programs\, residencies\, concerts\, mentorship\, and educational engagement\, filling more than 300 days of the year. The most promising young musicians from across the world have a platform to thrive\, make music together\, challenge each other\, form life-long bonds\, and transform their potential into a life-changing reality.

Developmental growth is supported by instilling habits and traits that young children need to navigate the world they find themselves in\, and the rich literacy world that is before them. \nEach young child that enters our doors has an internal and external “voice”; it is how we listen to that “voice” that allows us to engage them in the learning process.

SUMMARY:15th Annual Get Wild! Benefit Gala
DESCRIPTION:In 1991\, Virginia Frati was on her way home from her job as a secretary with the Dept. of Public Works in Yaphank when she saw a woodchuck hit by a car in front of her. The animal was not killed and was writhing in pain by the side of the road. She pulled over and approached the injured animal. It did not appear to be mortally wounded and she thought it could be helped. \nGinnie called a local veterinarian and was told she should contact a wildlife rehabilitator. With a hopeful heart she dialed the number she was given. An answering machine informed her of the numbers of other rehabilitators in the area. After leaving a frantic call for help\, Virginia dialed each number\, only to receive a similar message. She left a detailed call for help on each tape. After ten dollars of quarters were expended\, she realized that no help for the woodchuck was coming. She sat next to the suffering animal until it finally died. \nSuddenly Virginia could clearly see the hardships animals endure in the wild. That’s when she vowed to do something to alleviate the suffering of nature’s wild creatures. \n  \nVirgina was inspired to start her own rescue after realizing how little resources were available for struggling animals facing hardships. \n

SUMMARY:Poetry and Jazz at The Center
DESCRIPTION:The Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreational Center is a historically Black\, community-based organization serving ALL marginalized East End children and families. THE CENTER encourages\, educates\, and empowers children and their families. \n\nLots of wonderful things have been happening at The Center. Our long-needed and awaited new building is done. We now need to finish and landscape. We have a workforce training program called Teach Me How to Fish. Our after-school children continue to strive and thrive with our educational and enrichment programming. Our Summer program includes a strong component to prevent the Summer “slide” in learning. Our D.R.E.A.M. Teens meet regularly. Their foundation is based on Dedication\, Responsibility\, Education\, Attitude\, and Motivation. We have weekly SAT classes with extra math help. We are a full-service community center\, offering individual couseling and emergency assistance to families in need. All of this only touches the surface of the many programs and services offered at The Center. \n

SUMMARY:CHAMBER MUSIC WORKSHOP: CELEBRATION CONCERT IV
DESCRIPTION:Young artists of the Chamber Music Workshop cap off the Workshop’s 20th season. Programming to be announced. \n\n\n\n\n\nAs a young violin student at Juilliard\, Toby Perlman imagined an antidote to the competitive and isolating environment that exceptional young artists often grapple with in the pursuit of their craft.

SUMMARY:Tutti Suoanre at the Jewish Center of the Hamptons
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss our beloved Tutti Suonare concerts on June 9 and 10! Distinguished Artist-Faculty will join Young Artists in an unforgettable program of chamber music masterpieces\, capped with a choral performance led by Patrick Romano. \nFeaturing Molly Carr\, Merry Peckham\, Itzhak Perlman\, Donald Weilerstein\, Vivian Hornik-Weilerstein\, and Areta Zhulla. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nAs a young violin student at Juilliard\, Toby Perlman imagined an antidote to the competitive and isolating environment that exceptional young artists often grapple with in the pursuit of their craft.
