A Safe Haven for Newborns Palm Beach Holiday Cabaret Luncheon

On Sunday, December 10th, over 150 guests gathered and celebrated at A Safe Haven for Newborns 6th annual Holiday Cabaret luncheon at the Marjorie Merriweather Post estate in Palm Beach hosted by Lexye Aversa. The mission of this most prestigious event was to raise funds and awareness to eliminate infant abandonment. Honorees Jack & Barbara Nicklaus joined founder Nick E. Silverio and Royal emcee His Highness Dr. Prince Mario-Max Schaumburg-Lippe.

Nick Casciaro graced the stage as the featured performer of the Holiday Cabaret, flying in from his native Italy to star in the program. Winner of X-Factor Romania, his voice and showmanship first mesmerized guests, then had them disco dancing! A highlight of his concert was a special serenade to models strutting the stage in magnificent creations by Odalys Marino for a truly unique fashion show.

Nick  Casciaro graced the stage as the star of the Holiday Cabaret along with Cecilia Roy. Guests were greeted by the playful and colorful Ballet Palm Beach dancers at the entrance of the ballroom, which provided fabulous photo opportunities.  Odalys Marino joined with a beautiful fashion show. Then the audience was captivated by the words of Father Mark Leondis, Boca Raton St. Mark Greek Orthodox Church, and a riveting story of the meaning of birth delivered by Rabbi Moshe Scheiner, Palm Beach Synagogue. Compelling remarks were shared about our responsibility to children by Mark Donohue, who was involved in producing “The Sound of Freedom” movie.

Sponsors and Chairpersons: Lee & Denise Rizzuto, Erika Rizzuto, Louis & Helen Nicozisis, Philip Nicozisis & Tikky Jinnita Fongkam, Alan & Joy Marks, Jim & Michele Williford, Mark & Dawn Donohue – The Donohue Group/JP Morgan Chase, Arlette Gordon, Janet Levy, Oana-Alice Jebelean of Luxury Magazine, Sher Kasun, Mignon Gardner, Suzi Julian Yelvington, and beyond.

Lexye expressed “Joy to the World in gratitude to my CEO (Chief Elf Officer) Tracy DeMarzo and friends who took leave from Santa’s Workshop to drive my sleigh to success: Joe Freer, Christina Sanchez, Irma, Justin, Carol Parsons, Linda Nigro, Laura Males, Dawn DeMarco-Book”.  She special shout-out to the “NICK-ettes” Caring Committee….. for such a milestone day among NICK Silverio, Jack NICKlaus, NICK Casciaro, and of course St. NICK!

She thanked Joseph’s Classic Market and Legends Radio, with continued appreciation to Palm Beach Society and Rolise Rachel of The Seasun for “spreading the news”!

A powerful video was moderated by Ali, a young vivacious woman, who was found as an infant in a Budweiser box in a dumpster! Thanks to the tireless determination of Nick Silverio, there are 387 babies who have been blessed with a chance at life! Lexye and Prince Mario-Max conducted the Live Auction and Call from the Heart, launching the Capital Campaign for a dedicated headquarters to carry on the work and legacy of the organization for generations to come.

Nick E. Silverio created A Safe Haven for Newborns after his wife Gloria’s death, caused in a severe car accident by a speeding driver. What Gloria loved most was helping children and the elderly. Although they were unable to have their own, they were Godparents to 14 children. Nick knew he wanted to focus on charitable works in Gloria’s memory and discovered that the Florida Legislature had passed a Safe Haven Law in July 2000. He found his new purpose in life and established the Gloria M. Silverio Foundation, a 501(C)3 Florida not-for-profit organization in Miami, naming the first major project “A Safe Haven for Newborns” in response to the ongoing tragedy of newborn abandonment in Florida. The expanse of their reach is vast, immersed in 67 Florida Counties, partnering with the Florida Fire Chiefs Association, Emergency Medical Services, Hospitals, and many other organizations and agencies in the State with a 27/7 referral helpline, involving the media, establishing a volunteer network and developing efficient administrative systems. Highway billboards advise pregnant girls and women in crisis there is a “no questions asked” resource to see them through their pregnancy with multi-tiered humanitarian services. Their decal is evident throughout Florida on firehouses and hospitals (including Nicklaus Children’s Hospital), with training provided over a span of years for thousands of first responders, and a Guidestar Gold Star rating. Tallahassee has authorized issuance of license plates with their logo.

In autumn 2023, Accord Productions held the Premiere of “Uncle Nick” in Coral Gables, sharing their documentary on the selfless work of Nick Silverio and his mission immersed within A Safe Haven for Newborns. This was conceived and filmed pro bono by the production company; Nick Silverio viewed it for the first time with the audience that night.
